Exploring with Lewis- Dyed rice and Dinosaurs

Welcome to my new series. Exploring with lewis! He’s a little boy now there’s no denying it. So from now on when we do something fun or worthwhile I’ll be sharing what we did.

As a twinkl subscriber I’m very lucky to have lots and lots of lovely resources all ready made and available at a moment’s notice. Little did I know when I joined twinkl as a teacher I’d have lots to do with my little man, they have a whole section for under fives to do at home!

So on this rainy winter day we went for something to warm us up. I got some red food coloring and opted for rice and followed the simple steps. I had everything I needed in the house and it was ready within an hour.

Next I found a handy ikea tray (bargain at just £1.50) and poured in the rice. What better companion for lava rice than unsuspecting dinosaurs. I popped in a little volcano too!

Funnily enough Lewis loved pouring the lava onto the volcano. We of course had lots of dino roaring and jumping.

Then Lewis decided to put his feet in the tub to feel the rice. Instant regret as he frantically tried to get the rice out of his toes.

Being in an Ikea tray it was super easy to put the lid on and come back to another day. It’s been out for well over a week now and it’s kept perfectly and Lewis loves to go back to it for a wee play.

A nice simple but stimulating activity. We also read lots of dinosaur books before and after. Now I need to find some fun dinosaur songs!
