I LOVE Instagram! It is just a lovely place to go and look at happy things. Recently I’ve become an #instashop addict. I love the idea of supporting other working Mamas by buying nice things for Baby D and I, maybe I’ll buy Daddy D a thing or two soon!
Since Instagram is all about sharing I thought I would mention some of our current favourites, I have not been asked to share but these are some hard-working ladies I’ve been loving recently! All the pics are direct from Instagram of course!
I heard about forMAMAandBABA through a friend after Baby D became very interested in her necklace, I panicked and she told me its fine its baby safe jewellery. Woah I could wear jewellery again and it was safe for Baby D to gnaw on, fantastic. Baby D is nearly 1 and thanks to Holly at forMAMAandBABA I am now well kitted out in lots of lovely necklaces and bracelets that he can gnaw on. She also has lovely teethers and toy/dummy clips. I have to say the best thing for me about forMAMAandBABA is that Holly can literally customise anything to your needs. The fantastic Holly is giving all Joys of a Mum readers a fab discount, if you would like to order anything use JOY20 to receive 20% off all orders through June and July!
Which brings me to CHOMP Sensory- her other business which I found out by change when I asked for my bracelet to wear to work for when I work with my autistic learners, they love playing with my Mickey necklace but being much larger than Baby D I found they pulled a wee bit harder than him. Holly designed me a gorgeous quadruple threaded bracelet which is perfect for the job! Holly has a whole range of sensory toys/wearables for those who need to chew!
This recently opened shop sells gorgeous handmade beanie hats and bibs! When I was shopping for Baby D’s Teddy Bear Picnic clothes I loved the bear hat, I’d mentioned I’d love a coordinated set and Gin made the lovely matching bib. We are delighted that she is also adding t-shirts to her line. We will definitely need to complete the set! There is a gorgeous range of fabrics which you can have as a hat or bib, or of course you can have the matching set!
Little Shop for Scholars
Another fairly new shop, this is right up our street. This shop has specially selected toys and games for learning through play. The toys encourage early literacy, numeracy, inquisitive and scientific thinking. We purchased the gorgeous Dress Teddy Gift Set. I will be posting more about our adventures with Teddy soon but so far we have read Teddy bedtime stories, dressed him for bed and tucked him up in bed. Little Shop for Scholars also have a fantastic Play Blog dedicated to just that, encouraging children to play and fostering imaginative and creative play.
Arty Tots Crayons
I decided to go for something a little different for the favours for the wee man’s birthday. Elizabeth made gorgeous teddy bear crayons complete with lovely colouring sheets of a Teddy Bear’s Picnic. They were packaged beautifully and arrived safely well protected from my somewhat bashful postman! I also ordered a lovely name set complete with a Mickey and Minnie for the birthday boy himself. Elizabeth was so flexible and there are so many lovely options to choose from.
Sorcha Sews ALot
Since becoming a Mummy all I’ve wanted to do is shout from the rooftops that I am now a Mummy. Sorcha helped me do this beautifully with a gorgeous ‘mama’ sweatshirt. Funnily enough Baby D did actually say ‘mama’ first, never one to go with the trend. The sweatshirt is sewn beautifully and comes in a range of colours, you can have cursive or capital letters, and lots of lovely fabrics for the writing. Again these gorgeous products are also customisable. I wear it as part of my Mummy ‘uniform’ almost everyday. It washes perfectly and the top quality sewing survived Daddy D accidentally putting it in the tumble dryer too! I am hoping to get Baby D his own Sorcha Sweatshirt soon too!
Trees Bees and Marshmallows
I love natural skin care products. I have always shopped in the Body Shop for myself as I really do agree with their philosophy and don’t mind paying more for natural, ethically made products. Corri is like the Baby version of Body Shop for me and she also has some lovely products for Mummys too. I got Baby Body Lotion and now that’s the only lotion I use on Baby D, I also use the lotion too as I have such sensitive skin this is super gentle and makes my skin nice and soft. I have also used the lovely skin protective balm on my own hands but touch wood Baby D has never had nappy rash so we’ve not needed to really put anything on him. There is also a travel range coming soon which will be fab on the go!
There are so many lovely small businesses out there, it’s so nice to support real people and Baby D has got some lovely handmade items! What are your favourite independent shops? I’m always looking to support small businesses!
